Devotion Runs Deep

By the Greater Kansas Racing Alliance in conjunction with Ernie Rodina

Horse and greyhound racing is comprised of a host of individuals, each with a unique passion for different parts of the industry. One of those individuals is Ernie Rodina, who grew up in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Not only is he an individual with a passion for all things equine, but, Rodina is well-known throughout equine circles. He is a horse lover and a household name in the horse industry.

You could say that Rodina is a connecting point for individuals involved in the industry. Rodina’s contacts with horse people, as well as farm and ranch owners is unparalleled. Those who know him would say he is relationship-oriented, trustworthy, enthusiastic, hard-working, and knowledgeable.

Rodina spent more than thirty-five years with Purina Animal Nutrition in the Kansas City area where he was recognized and awarded for his many achievements throughout his career.  At Purina, he earned the National Sales Contest for seven years for being in the Top 10%. He also won he Circle of Achievement Award three times.

Over twenty-five years ago, Rodina founded the Kansas Reigning Horse Association and served as its first president. Even today, he is still active in promoting the association.

Recognition for Rodina’s devotion extends into many areas of the equine community. He was awarded the 2005 Kansas Horse Council’s Equine Ambassador of the year. In 2015, Ernie was awarded Ottawa Cowboy of the year by Ottawa’s Old West Cowboy Days.

Rodina’s connections to people and his vast experience were of great value when, seventeen years ago, he created The Better Horses Network, Inc. His Better Horses Radio show now plays on stations throughout the midwest. Rodina’s Better Horses Network has grown into three radio networks, the Better Horses publication, an electronic newsletter, e-blasts, event marketing, and NOW TV. It is the “go to” source for all things equine in the Kansas City area and beyond.

Even with The Better Horses Network’s growth, Rodina continues to serve in various ways. He served on the Executive Board of Directors for the American Royal and was instrumental in developing and putting on some great events at the American Royal. Rodina is also involved with the annual “Dream Ride In The Flint Hills” which is in its eighteenth year.
